Evaluation: Changing Thinking

The magic of real objects

The opportunity for each sector of the partnership to enter each other's 'worlds' offered an opportunity for wider reflecton and possible a change in thinking. This was true for all participants: trainees, teachers, ITE providers and museum educators alike. The change in thinking went beyond simply developing a better understanding of the sector ('I always thought museums were only about history but now I know they're much mores than that'.) but extended deep into the heart of perceptions of teaching and learning. The dialogue heard here (pdf transcription available) is in response to the following questions:

To the trainees. . . We've talked about how this placement has changed how you think about learning in museums but beyond that has the placement affected how you think about teaching, do you think any aspects of it might affect your classroom practice?

To the teachers & ITE providers. . . Has the placement project changed any aspect of your thinking about teaching and learning? What shifted your thinking? Might this shift affect your work?

To the museum educators. . . Has the project helped you reflect on your own practice and that of your colleagues? Has there been any shift in your thinking about teaching and learning?
