Relationships & Behaviour
The museum and gallery experience provided trainee teachers with real challenges in terms of building relationships, not only with a range of fellow professionals but also, a diverse range of learners. In one placement, a trainee might work with all school ages and abilities (including Special Education and EAL), with learners in less formal contexts (family learning) and with specific access to learning groups including Alzheimer's support and young offenders. In doing this there are opportunities to develop a wide-ranging understanding of working with others and inclusion that it would be impossible to replicate in a single-school setting. The dialogue heard here (pdf transcription available) is in response to the following question:
To the trainee teachers. . . In what ways has involvement in this project helped you develop those underpinning professional attributes that are the requirement of anyone entering the profession; things like developing strong relationships with children and young people, communicating and working with other professionals, adopting inclusive approaches and so forth?
